Camp John Hay in Baguio City, Philippines, boasts a rich history that spans over a century, marked by significant transitions.
Established on October 25, 1903, by President Theodore Roosevelt as a military reservation, it was named after his Secretary of State, John Milton Hay. Initially serving as a vacation and recreation area for American servicemen, the camp became a popular retreat amidst the cool mountain air of Baguio.
After World War II, the camp was converted into John Hay Air Base in 1955, playing a strategic role during the post-war years. In 1991, control of the camp was formally handed over to the Philippine government, marking the end of its military functiоn
Following this transfer, the area was redeveloped into a vibrant tourist attraction, human resource development hub, and forest watershed reservation.
